ASCII P2P Workshop on Digital Design

ASCII conducted our first P2P Workshop on Digital Design starting 18th July, 2016.

Subject of Study        : Digital design using the following tools - Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Lightroom, and Inkscape.
Duration                    : 1 hour (4:15-5:15) on 3-5 days
Target Audience       : All Christites with no prerequisites
Expectation              : That at the end of the Workshop, all participants will have acquired a basic knowledge of working with the software taught

The Design Workshop was conducted keeping in mind the ever increasing demand for designers both in campus and in the industries..

Day 1

Day 1 started off on a slow pace due to delay in installation and distribution of the requisite software. All the Inkscape, the software to be taught, installed in all machines by 4:30pm and proceeded with introduction to the course by Paul Sebastian. Paul also introduced the trainers and volunteers for the day, Arnab Mukherjee and Rupak Mishra, as well as all volunteers for the day. Rupak took over and introduced all tools used in Inkscape, and in a while, Arnab proceeded with the design of a mascot. The workshop was wound up at 5:15, and all participants were asked to practice at home with a mascot and send in their designs by mail. We also welcomed any

Day 2

Day 2 Started off at 4:20pm. The session was more structured, and Arnab. The workshop on Inkscape was concluded and it was decided that Photoshop would be taught the next day. The closing time was pushed to 5:20. Thus, Inkscape tutorial was concluded, and the participants sent home in time.

Day 3

Day 3 started off with a recap on the tools and designs taught on Inkscape in the previous 2 days. 10 minutes was allotted to installation of Photoshop. Amritanshu Singh then took the participants into an introduction to the various tools in Photoshop. It was decided that the workshop would continue for two more days, and would concentrate only on Adobe Photoshop. The sessions on Illustrator and Lightroom were put on hold as they were deemed not feasible.

Day 4

Day 4 was an introduction into Poster and Badge design by Paul. As an improvement over the previous session based on feedback, all files required for commencement were shared in a folder. The class concluded at 5:30. Assignments given included designing a poster for the upcoming Android Workshop.

Day 5

The day was handled by Amritanshu and Mohit Khiani and involved sessions on advanced tools and photo editing. The class was concluded at 5:30pm. A formal conclusion and vote of thanks by Paul Sebastian followed, and the participants were asked for constructive feedback. Several videos were recorded and photographs taken. The workshop was concluded at 5:45pm on 22nd July.

In conclusion, this reporter would like to state that the workshop was in overall a success; the participants exuded an overall feeling pleasure and gratitude, albeit the few setbacks. It seemed to be well managed, and time delays were kept to a minimum. As an Outcome of this workshop, participants were able to design effective posters in their department for various activities.And once in a week Participants meet together to discuss further more and share more knowledge they have gained.
